January: Kieran’s Ward Fund Allocation Call
Cllr. Kieran McCarthy is calling on any community groups in the south east ward of Cork City with an interest in sharing in his ward funding to apply for his funds before the middle of February. A total of E.8,000 is available to community groups through Cllr. Kieran McCarthy’s ward funds. This email should give the name of the organisation, contact name, telephone number, what will the ward grant will be used for?
Ward funds will be prioritised to community groups who build community capacity, educate, build civic awareness and projects, which connect the young and old. Cllr. McCarthy especially welcomes proposals where the funding will be used to run a community event that benefits the wider community. In addition, he is seeking to fund projects that give people new skill sets. That could include anything from part funding of coaching training for sports projects to groups interested in bringing enterprise programmes to encourage entrepreneurship to the ward. Cllr. McCarthy is also particularly interested in funding community projects such as community concerts, coffee mornings and those that promote the rich history and environment within the south east ward. May: Local Agenda 21 Funding:May: Environmental Project Funding
Independent Cllr Kieran McCarthy is calling on communities, individuals, not for profit groups, or organisations to avail of this year’s Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund – The Department of the Environment is offering funding towards projects or initiatives that contribute to increasing local levels of environmental awareness; or those which promote building greener, more sustainable communities.
Commenting Cllr McCarthy noted: “A wide variety of projects and schemes have been supported under the Fund in previous years ranging from community gardens, allotments and compost schemes to rainwater harvesting systems – from ecological educational initiatives to environmental exhibitions. Projects should focus on environmental awareness and actions which complement national environmental policies such as those on Waste, Biodiversity, Climate Change and Sustainable Development”.

April: Community Maintenance Grants
Cllr Kieran McCarthy is calling on Community Associations, Residents Associations and other organisations in Blackrock and Mahon to avail of funding for Community Area Maintenance Grants in 2010. Grants are intended to fund or part-fund community initiatives with a litter prevention focus.
Cllr Kieran McCarthy noted “there are currently four litter wardens for the entire city and because of the economy an embargo on recruiting extra staff exists. That means the current litter wardens are struggling to police the city’s litter problem. In that light it is important that the local community also take care of the aesthetics of their local area.
The community grants available are ideal for community groups and in particular city schools, which I feel should be engaging more in community awareness schemes making their students aware or the importance of citizenship and social responsibility.”

Cork City Council Arts Office invites applications for the following Grant Schemes
Project Scheme 2010
Individual Artist Bursary Award 2010
Community Arts Development Fund 2010

The Project Scheme provides direct funding for professional arts projects across all disciplines. The projects must not already be in receipt of funding from any other scheme administered by the Arts Office.
The Individual Artist Bursary Award supports the development of individual artists. Applications must be in respect of the professional development of individual practicing artists, arts administrators, and/ or arts and cultural theorists.
The Community Arts Development fund provides research/development and project funding to individuals and groups in the community/voluntary sector for arts projects and for artists who want to undertake projects with and in the community.
Cork City Council’s Arts and Cultural Development Plan 2006-2009 is available to download on our website http://www.corkcity.ie Grant aid is distributed in accordance with these policies and strategies.

April: Community Maintenance Grants Scheme 2010, Cork City Council
March: Twinning Grants Available
Cork City Council has an open call for providing grants to Cork city based groups who are willing to pursue activities to promote the twinning links between any of the twinned cities subject to certain conditions. Cork city is twinned with 6 cities, Cologne, Germany, Coventry, United Kingdom, Rennes, France, San Francisco, U.S.A., Swansea, Wales and Shanghai, China.
Chair of the San Francisco sub-committee on the Cork side, Cllr Kieran McCarthy noted “ In particular I am seeking projects that strengthen the links between San Francisco and Cork in the guise of an arts/ cultural/ heritage project. Also I would like to see the Cork Swansea twinning relationship blossom because of the Ferry. The twinning grant scheme is an ideal source of funding to get ideas off the ground and connect Cork people to other cities of international importance. The nature of the activity may be community based, voluntary, social, business, cultural, educational, sporting or of general social and economic benefit”.
An activity which is likely to develop and deepen links and generate new contacts with a twinned city will be given extra consideration. The twinning activity may involve travelling to a twinned city but travel is not a pre-requisite for awarding a grant. The maximum grant awarded is €1,270. All applications must be supported by detailed programmes and financial projections.

January: Arts Grants 2010, Cork City Council
Cork City Council invites applications for grants under the Arts Grants Scheme 2010 from groups who contribute to the creative arts and culture of Cork city.
Grant aid is provided to a number of professional arts organisations and community and voluntary groups throughout the city area. These grants provide direct revenue funding for groups in support of their core work.
There are separate application forms for the Professional and Community/Voluntary Sectors as we are sensitive to the differing needs and operations of each.
Cork City Council’s Arts and Cultural Development Plan 2006-2009 is available to download on Cork City Council’s website http://www.corkcity.ie Grant aid is distributed in accordance with these policies and strategies. Arts Grants are allocated to organisations only. Cork City Council offers artist bursary awards to individual artists. Please contact the Arts Office for further information.

October: Sports Grants 2009, Cork City Council
Cllr. Kieran McCarthy is calling on all sports clubs in the Douglas area and surrounds to avail of the small sport grants scheme for Club development. Cork City Sports Partnership, in association with Irish Sports Council, invites applications from Sports Clubs in the Cork City area who may wish to be considered for grants under the once-off scheme. Grants are being given to clubs to encourage and increases participation in sport by young people in Cork City. Increasing participation and the improvement of training and coaching is also encouraged through this initiative.
Commenting Cllr. McCarthy “in a time of scarce financial resources, this small grant scheme will be able to give a club the necessary functional resources to pay for smaller needs. There are fantastic coaches in our community that give so much of their time all in a bid to give young people a sense of purpose, pride and confidence”.

EBS Community Fund
“At EBS we want to make a difference in the communities in which we live and work through providing support to local groups and causes to help them continue the good work that they do. With this in mind we launched the EBS Community Fund. This fund provides financial support to projects that benefit local communities around Ireland.
In order to support these groups we need to know which ones contribute the most to our local communities and who better to tell us what causes are important than our own members. The EBS Community Fund asks members around Ireland to nominate a cause that is close to their hearts to be considered for funding.
Any group or cause that is local and not for profit are considered to receive funding, so everyone from homework clubs to community centres may be considered. A group representative of members and staff from around the country then have the challenging task of choosing what support should go to what causes.
In 2009, EBS will once again be calling for nominations from local communities - keep an eye out in your local EBS office, newspapers and here on this site for further details. Application forms will be available in all EBS offices and online.
