Global Entrepreneur Initiative 2011, Seminar, Monday 11 April 2011

On Friday 1st April in the Lord Mayor’s Chambers, City Hall, Cork IBM Ireland announced details of the forthcoming Global Entrepreneur Initiative 2011.  The event itself will take place in the Millennium Hall, City Hall, Cork on the 11th April, 2011 and will commence at 9.30 a.m.

IBM launched the original Global Entrepreneur initiative in early 2010,this initiative is designed to help start-up companies capture emerging business opportunities in fast-growing industries like energy and utilities, healthcare, communications and government, and work with a new generation of entrepreneurs to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues — like water, transportation, healthcare and the environment — that will transform the way people live and work.

Part of the IBM Global Entrepreneur initiative is IBM SmartCamp. This is an exclusive networking and mentoring event that identifies early-stage entrepreneurs who are developing business ventures that complement the Smarter Cities efforts by bringing together business, venture capital, academic, civic and government leaders for a conversation about innovation, human capital and economic development in a city environment.

To participate in this initiative, a start-up must be:

  • Privately held
  • In business for less than five years
  • Actively developing a solution on an open platform – or willing to move to an open platform.
  • Turnover less than $1,000,000.

10.05 – 10.15        Speech by Cllr Kieran McCarthy, Deputising for the Lord Mayor of   Cork

10:15 – 10:45        IBM Global Entrepreneurship Programme and SmartCamp, by Noel Crawford, IBM

10.45 – 10.55        Speech by Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food, Mr. Simon Coveney TD

10.55 – 11:05        Speech by Denis Collins, Chairman of IT@Cork,

11:05 – 11.10        Wrap up by Noel Crawford

11.10 – 12.00        Networking and sign-up for IBM Global Entrepreneurship Programme
